Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about rushing Tau Theta Pi!

What type of sorority is Tau Theta Pi?

Tau Theta Pi is a socially based multicultural organization. Although we are a socially based sorority, we highly emphasize the continual progression of striving towards achieving academic success, as well as the essential need to contribute to the improvement of underprivileged communities.

What makes Tau Theta Pi different? What makes Tau Theta Pi unique?

In addition to being a multicultural sorority, founded on the basis of achieving strength through diversity, Tau Theta Pi aims to enrich the growth and development of the individual, creating the opportunity and environment for one to expand and further perfect skills that increase one’s confidence and allows for the growth of strong women.

I'm not sure I will "fit in" a sorority...

There is no single "type" of girl that represents a Tau Theta Pi. We do not ask you to be someone you're not. We want, in fact WE ENCOURAGE, you to be yourself.

Is there a GPA requirement?

Yes, all members are required to have a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

Will the time commitment involved interfere with my other prior obligations? How are meetings and events scheduled? What if I can’t attend them?

Don't worry! We plan all events and meetings around everyone's schedule! Additionally, one of the skills we develop as college students is time management. Sisters are always available to help each other stay on track and responsible.

I’m on a “college student” budget - aren’t sororities expensive?

As an active sister of Tau Theta Pi, each of us pays $100 each quarter.  The collected active dues pay for sisterhood events, philanthropies, and socials that are held during the quarter.  Additionally, it is possible to set up a payment plan or organize a fundraiser to cover quarterly dues.

All the crazy hazing stories make me apprehensive about joining a sorority. Does Tau Theta Pi haze?

No, Tau Theta Pi does not haze. Furthermore, we do not use the word “pledge” because we feel the connotation tied to this word implies a derogatory meaning suggesting one’s inferior placement. Instead, we evoke the term “potential member” as it refers to one that is still in the midst of their educational process towards becoming an active sister of Tau Theta Pi, but at the same time, is still associated with our organization.

Does Tau Theta Pi have a brother fraternity?

No, Tau Theta Pi does not have a brother fraternity because we value the dynamics that allow us the opportunity to appreciate the diversity that exists in multiple fraternities.

I’m interested in potential networking opportunities—what are the long-term benefits of joining Tau Theta Pi?

The alumnae of Tau Theta Pi have found great success in a wide range of companies and occupations, continuously finding various career opportunities including but not limited to: Amgen Pharmaceutical Co., Kaiser Permanente, various Law Firms, Real Estate Development, Teachers, HOPE, Architecture Firms, and more. Many Tau Theta Pi sisters are constantly helping each other find new careers, connnections, and opportunities, long after they graduate from college. Not only do sisters offer career support; they also offer emotional support and advice through all of life's ups and downs.
